You know what. I’m gonna keep on writing about Nyarlko. Not because it’s good (although it’s gotten better). Nope. I’m gonna do this shit because no one else is doing it. That’s what the cool kids do, right?

I whined, bitched, and complained about the first episode of Nyarlko a few weeks ago, and rightfully so. That damn episode fucking sucked, and I figured the rest of the series was gonna suck as well.
Then I watched the next two episodes. It ain’t awesome or anything, but it’s back up to the same level of the original OAV episodes.
Y’all should know by now how much I was looking forward to Haiyore! Nyarlko-san. I love me some Cthulhu Mythos shit, and I was amused enough by the shorts that were released earlier this year. When I heard there was gonna be an out-and-out TV anime coming out, I was super-duper psyched. It was like someone said “Hey, that Landon guy has put up with way too much shitty anime over the years, so let’s throw him a bone and give him his dream anime.”
And then I watched the new TV anime and it was absolute shit. Four minutes long. Two of those minutes were the ending credits. Or were they the opening credits? When an anime is this short, there’s no way in hell you can know which end is which. And the two minutes of actual shit? Absolutely unfunny. At least the shorts from earlier this year had a sense of humor and actually went back and talked about Mythos shit. The only good thing about this episode was Nyarlko’s Lovecraft apron. I’d totally buy one of those. Otherwise, it was shit.
I guess this all makes sense in context. Cthulhu’s all about humanity having no hope in the face of cosmic horrors we can barely comprehend and have no chance in hell of defeating. I have no hope in the face of shitty anime.
Haiyore! Nyarlko-San finally got subbed.
This was the anime that I was waiting for this year. Everyone else was all “OMG! ANGEL BEATS HARUHI COSPLAYER!” or “BLACK ROCK SHOOTER AUTOTUNE CRAP YAY!” or whatever, but I was all “HELLS YEAH! CTHULHU MYTHOS IN DRAG! IA IA FHTHAWT!”
Suffice it to say that I was a teensy bit disappointed.
Yesterday, the distant stars of Lovecraftian Horror and Moe aligned, signaling one of the seals of the apocalypse. Said seal took the form of Haiyore! Nyaruko-San, an upcoming anime series in which Nyarlothotep, the great deceived of the Mythos, takes the form of a cute little girl, apparently in order to harass some luckless anime boy stereotype.
We essentially have a redux of Ah! My Goddess, except if Belldandy was The Crawling Chaos capable of turning men’s dreams into everlasting, horrifically hellish nightmares.
I for one am excited.
