The movie is about Onoda Sakamichi, a shy otaku obsessed with anime but a bicycling talent. He tried to set up an anime club but failed. On one occasion, he met the school’s racing club. And the brothers in the Sohoku High Bicycle Club pulled him to join their club.

Yowamushi Pedal (弱 虫 ペ ダ ル Yowamushi Pedaru) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Wataru Watanabe. It began being published on Akita Shoten’s 12th Weekly Shōnen Champion in 2008, and on June 8, 2017, published 51 volumes. On October 7, 2013 an anime adaptation was released and there were two seasons licensed by Discotek Media in North America. In addition, a live-action drama version was also released in August 2016. The 3rd season anime version was broadcast from January 10, 2017 to June 26, 2017.

Sakamichi Onoda is a typical otaku. He has just entered high school. In high school, Onoda didn’t have any friends with his hobbies. He hoped to change that by joining the anime club in high school. However, he was quite surprised to find out that the anime club was disbanded due to lack of attention, and to reestablish the club, more than four members were required to join.

Ever since he was a boy, Onoda has been riding a bicycle in his city (called “Mommy Bike” in the anime). This is a simple and bulky car designed for short trips. One year, a professional rider named Shunsuke Imaizumi noticed Onoda riding his bike and ridiculed him until Imaizumi saw Onoda climbing a steep hill without effort. Another character, Naruko, came to Akihabara to buy some plastic Gundam models for his younger brothers and met Onoda. And he was attracted to Onoda’s cycling skills. Later, both Naruko and Imaizumi tried to persuade Onoda to join the cycling club in Sohoku High School.

TMS Entertainment first aired the anime series on October 7, 2013 on TV Tokyo. The second season, Yowamushi Pedal: Grande Road, began airing on October 6, 2014 in Japan. The film currently has three Movie Yowamushi Pedal Re: RIDE, Yowamushi Pedal: Re: ROAD, and Yowamushi Pedal: The Movie.
