
Yuri!!! on Ice (ユ ー リ !!! on ICE?) is an anime specializing in Japanese Figure Skating. The anime was made by Sayo Yamamoto and scripted by Mitsuro Kubo. The character design is Tadashi Hiramatsu, and the soundtracks from the film were edited by Umebayashi and Taku Matsushiba. The slides were choreographed by Kenji Miyamoto, who performed them himself and recorded for sound effects. The anime premiered on October 6, 2016 and ended on December 22, for a total of 12 episodes. A special movie of Yuri on Ice is in the process of production. The film revolves around the relationship between Japanese skater Katsuki Yuuri, Russian skating champion Victor Nikiforov and Russian rookie Yuri Plisetsky. Yuuri K. and Yuri P.’s participation in the Grand Prix and Victor ice-skating tournaments are coaches of Yuuri K.

Yuri on Ice has received criticism for describing homosexual relationships between the main characters in the film. Some critics, meanwhile, praise it for exploring the topic in a new way compared to most anime and manga such as yaoi and against homosexual stereotypes in a country and sport where problems with homosexuals. Others have criticized the film’s plot for being unrealistic and unclear. The film was also praised for its success in portraying anxiety and also caused a brief controversy about a fairly similar skating title to be released in the US in 2017.
